A Midwife is a specially trained skilled care provider who focuses on caring for women, families, and newborns during the childbearing year. Midwives practice client-centered care in which the clients hopes, preferences, and needs are placed at the center of the care model as a primary guide for their experience. Trust is at the center of my relationship with my clients. This trust is developed intentionally in our time together before, during, and after your birth.

As you consider potential insurance approval, start with the following questions:

• Does my plan exclude using a midwife? If the answer is "yes", your plan will not reimburse you.

• Does my plan exclude homebirths? If your plan excludes homebirths (even if they cover the use of a midwife in another setting), the plan will not reimburse you.

• Does my plan allow me to use providers that are not in-network?

  • If yes, they usually reimburse at a lower rate than in-network providers.( Servant’s Heart Midwifery is not an in-network provider with any insurance).

  • If not, they will not pay for any services whatsoever rendered by the provider who is out of network. Your plan will not reimburse you.

• So you've chatted with your insurance, asked the above questions and received your answer.... If there are NO exclusions for a midwife or a home birth, and the plan allows you to see providers outside of the network, you will contact Mindful Midwifery Billing Services to assist you with billing.

• If insurance will not cover your home birth, I have payment plan options available.

My team and I will bring all medical supplies to your home birth and these are included in the total fee for your care. However, there are additional items that you will need to have on hand for your home birth. While some of these items might need to be purchased, others can likely be gathered from around your home (old towels, wash clothes, bowls, trashbags, etc.) I will provide you with a birth supply list during your second or third trimester. Amie, Servant’s Heart Midwifery’s CPM will attend your birth, along with 1 to 2 birth assistants.

Emergencies happen, although less than you would probably think. My team and I are prepared, practiced, & peaceful when they arise. I carry emergency medicines, oxygen & supplies with me at all times. Additionally, my team and myself carry certification in Neonatal Resuscitation. I keep thorough records throughout your pregnancy and birth should an emergency arise so that your transition to other care will be smooth. I also partner with a local hospital provider should the setting of your birth need to change in an emergent situation.

My team and I tend to the cleaning of the birth space after birth. We will empty the birth tub, put linens in the laundry, tend to any supplies that need disposed of and generally tidy the space in which you gave birth in. We deeply honor the privilege of being invited into your home and make quick work of tidying your space after birth.

Yes! I have birth tubs available for you to borrow. However, you would need to purchase the tub liner, lead-free one and hose adapter.

Generally, homebirth is less costly than hospital birth. The care you receive from Servant’s Heart includes prenatal & postpartum care, virtual support in between visits should you have questions or concerns, and attendance at your birth, as well as initial newborn exams. I offer payment plans and work with an independent billing service to help those who have insurance coverage for home birth.
